Initiatives of the Federal President

2012 Week of the Environment

On 5 and 6 June 2012 Federal President Joachim Gauck and the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt will jointly host the forth Week of the Environment in the park of Schloss Bellevue. The Week of the Environment offers businesses, research facilities, associations and initiatives the opportunity to present their new technologies, projects and concepts for sustainable approaches to natural resources. The third Week of the Environment in 2007 drew nearly 12,000 visitors.

The first Week of the Environment took place in 2002 in the park of Schloss Bellevue.

Youth debate

"Jugend debattiert" (youth debate) is a language and political education project. The project seeks to motivate young people to take an interest in political issues while still in school, and to actively and skilfully take part in political debates.

"Jugend debattiert" was established in 2001 as an initiative of the Federal President; he has since served as its patron.

The Federal President’s History Competition

The Federal President's History Competition seeks to inspire in children and young people an interest in their own history and to strengthen their sense of responsibility and independence.

The History Competition began in 1973 as an initiative of the Federal President and of the Hamburg donor Kurt A. Körber.

The Federal President’s Development Policy Competition

The Federal President's school competition "alle für EINE WELT für alle" (everyone for one world for everyone) seeks to promote development policy education at schools and raise school pupils’ awareness of development policy issues.

Commemorate the past - Vitalize democracy

Federal President Joachim Gauck and the Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur (Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship) host a series of discussions with the title "Commemorate the past - Vitalize democracy".
