The Federal President held a speech at the ceremony in the German Bundestag in Berlin on 9 November 2018: "Anyone who despises human rights and democracy today, who rekindles old nationalist hatred, certainly has no historical right to the colours black, red and gold. The revolution of 1918/19 was the dawn of democracy, of a political experiment whose outcome was uncertain."
