Visit to the Slovak Republic

Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier paid his first official visit to the Slovak Republic on 17 November. He met Slovak President Andrej Kiska for political talks in Bratislava. Moreover, he took part in a panel discussion in Žilina attended by civil society representatives and students entitled "The future of democracy in Europe" and visited an Orthodox synagogue.

At the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier held a speech at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn on 15 November 2017: "For it is clear that the historic climate accord of 2015 must remain irreversible, and we are all jointly called upon to take concrete action now. Paris will only truly have been a breakthrough if we follow the agreement with action."

Opening of the museum Hartmannswillerkopf

The Federal President at the opening of the Museum Hartmannswillerkopf in France on 10 November 2017: "We are recalling something that each generation has to learn afresh for itself – to separate the concept of nation from the ideology of nationalism. We are remembering what happened, because we never again want to be led astray by nationalism – to repression at home and aggression towards others."

State banquet in New Zealand

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier held a speech at a state banquet on the occasion of his state visit to New Zealand on 6 November: "At this time, New Zealand and Germany should remember the many things they have in common. Our countries stand for freedom, democracy, the rule of law and human rights. Both are willing to take on responsibility in order to protect and strengthen these fragile achievements."
