The 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall

On 9 November, together with the Presidents of Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, Federal President Steinmeier commemorated the opening of the Berlin Wall and highlighted how Central European countries had contributed to the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR. The heads of state jointly participated in a commemorative event at Bernauer Strasse. In the evening, the Federal President delivered an address at the Brandenburg Gate.

On 9 November, together with the Presidents of Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier commemorated the opening of the Berlin Wall and highlighted how Central European countries had contributed to the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR.

In the morning, the Federal President welcomed Andrzej Duda, Zuzana Čaputová, Miloš Zeman and János Áder at Schloss Bellevue. Shortly afterwards, the five heads of state attended an event hosted by the Berlin Wall Foundation at Bernauer Strasse, where they left roses at the hinterland securing wall in commemoration of the victims of the border regime. Subsequently, the heads of state proceeded to the memorial sculpture at Bernauer Strasse, which pays tribute to the role played by the Visegrad states Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary in the fall of the Berlin Wall. Finally, the Federal President hosted a luncheon for his guests at Schloss Bellevue.

In the evening, Federal President Steinmeier participated in the celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate, where he delivered an address marking the anniversary of the fall of the Wall.
