50 years of the Élysée Treaty

On 22 January 2013, Federal President Joachim Gauck welcomed French President François Hollande with military honours at Schloss Bellevue. Afterwards, the two heads of state had talks. Hollande had come to Berlin to join the festivities marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Élysée Treaty.

In the afternoon, Federal President Gauck took part in a joint session of the German Bundestag and the French National Assembly.

The Franco-German Treaty of Friendship was signed by Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and French President Charles de Gaulle in the Élysée Palace in Paris on 22 January 1963.
