President Gauck and Daniela Schadt made a state visit to the People’s Republic of China from 19 to 24 March 2016. The further development of bilateral relations was a key focus of their trip. President Gauck traveled to Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an and held political talks with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.

President Joachim Gauck and Daniela Schadt made a state visit to the People’s Republic of China from 19 to 24 March. They have been invited by President Xi Jinping.

The further development of bilateral relations was a key focus of their trip to China. President Gauck traveled to Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an and held political talks with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other senior state and government representatives.

In Beijing President Gauck opened the German-Chinese Year of school and youth exchanges 2016 together with President Xi Jinping. President Gauck also met with artists, students and religious representatives to learn more about the situation in present-day China.
