Andrzej Duda's second term as President of Poland ends at the beginning of August 2025. According to the Polish constitution, he cannot be re-elected after two terms in office.
After the meeting, the Federal President praised the close cooperation:
President Duda and I have worked closely together for more than eight years. We have been particularly committed to the commemoration of our shared history. Our cooperation is always set against the background of German responsibility for the great suffering that Germans brought upon Polish citizen. Joint remembrance is the precondition for working towards a common future. Especially in these times, Poland and Germany must stand even closer together to defend liberal democracy in Europe.
