From 23 to 25 June Federal President Joachim Gauck and his partner Daniela Schadt went on a state visit the Portuguese Republic at the invitation of President Aníbal Cavaco Silva.
Bilateral relations and European issues were the main themes of the two day state visit. It focused particularly on bilateral economic ties, the economic situation in Portugal and the political and social challenges the country faces following the end of the Economic Adjustment Programme of the euro area countries and the IMF. The Federal President participated also in a German-Portuguese business forum and visited a German-Portuguese vocational training centre.
